Omaha Poker

Omaha Poker has two variants which are Omaha Hi and Omaha Hi-Lo. Let us discuss both of them in detail in this article.

Omaha Hi:

Omaha Poker

This game is also referred as Omaha Holdem or Omaha. Omaha Holdem differs from Texas Holdem in the quantity of cards dealt and the best hand rules. Two aces are preferred than three since there is a better probability of getting three of a kind. It is always advised to use only two Hole Cards.

How to play:

Four Hole Cards are provided to all players. Now there is an option to wager. Following this you receive 3 cards facing up called as Community Cards. This is termed as a “Flop”. Again there is a betting option. You receive one Face Up card. The previous step is termed as “The Turn”. Here is the third chance for betting. Then you receive the last face up card and this step is called “The River”. You are offered the last betting option. You win if you have the highest of 5 cards.

There are three options to play Omaha Hi. They are:

  • Pot Limit (the most opted one)
  • Fixed Limit
  • No Limit

Meaning of PL (Pot Limit):

The maximum bet size you can wager is the pot size. Thus it is aptly termed as Pot Limit. Pot Limit Omaha consists of draws, redraws.

Winning tip

Pot Limit Omaha could be grouped as Flop game. Avoiding big favorites prior to “The flop” is a winning strategy.

Omaha High Low

This event resembles the Omaha High. The difference is that a player with minimum hand value will take away half of the pot provided his top card is 8 or below. There is a possibility that the same hand could win both low and high pot. In case of high hand Flushes and Straights are also valid. Both the pots will be grabbed by the same player if there are no ties or flushes.

Omaha is called by different names such as Omaha Split, Omaha Hi/Lo, Omaha Lowball, Omaha 8/b, Omaha HiLo, Omaha H/L

How to play:

A big and small blind are posted before dealing any cards. The blinds resemble those in Texas Hold’em poker.
You deal with four cards called the “Hole cards”. You are provided with choice of betting. You receive 3 Face Up Community cards called “The Flop”. You get another chance to bet. You receive another card called “The Turn”. You get a betting option. You receive the last community card termed as “The River”. Here is your last betting chance.

Players with the lowest and highest hand win half pot each. But in case of lowest hand player should have a 5 card hand with highest one valuing to 8 or below. There are much of tie options.
Omaha Hi/Lo is one of the difficult casino games to win. But a skilled player could easily grab a lot of profit. It is available with Fixed and Pot Limit facility.
